What Makes Me the Right Person to Help You on Your Yoga Journey and Ultimately Make You Feel Better and Move with Ease?
Who I am and what I do
What makes me different from other Yoga and Movement Specialists out there is that I blend over 20 years of traditional eastern mindset training with Sports Science. I take my clients through a simple, no-fluff, light-hearted method of moving their bodies.
As a result, people who work with me feel less stressed, move with more ease, feel recharged and ultimately lead more vibrant lives.
Why I Developed My Kind of Yoga™
To explain what led me to teach yoga and more recently to develop My Kind of Yoga™, I need to tell you about my journey.
I have always been active and taken part in competitive sport. In my teens back in Kuala Lumpur, I fought for my county and was ultimately selected to represent Malaysia. I loved how competitive sport made me focus and so when I stopped competing in my early twenties, I stopped exercising.
The problem I had is that I love food and I love eating food! I realised that if I wanted to enjoy eating, I needed to move my body.
So, I started going to the gym to work out. It didn’t take me long to realise that I needed to complement hard training with some flexibility and core work, and so I decided to pick up yoga again. I’d done some yoga in the past but didn’t really stick with it as I found the classes too boring!
It wasn’t till I started lecturing on undergraduate and postgraduate Sports Science courses that I decided that there isn’t just one way to exercise, and there isn’t just one way to practice yoga. Why is it in the west, we attempt to get people to fit a mould, that there should be exercise guidelines for diabetics or cardiac patients? We are all individuals with varying life experiences, physical and mental blueprints, and therefore we should make the exercise programme or yoga practice to suit the individual.
That is when I began to embark seriously down the yoga and personal development path. I begged and borrowed money to get my hands on yoga, and personal development training and information from the top experts in the respective fields.
My Kind of Yoga™ is derived from over 25 years of yoga training, sports science research, fitness training, personal development and self-study. It is a movement system and a loose approach to traditional Yoga practice derived from my own direct experience of what works and what doesn’t work for me on my Yoga journey. It is about honouring the fact that each person’s body, life experiences and health issues are specific to them and them alone, and so anyone’s Yoga journey is about cultivating your kind of yoga practice.
